Pete Baumgartner
Home: King George, Virginia
Occupation: Systems Engineer, contracted to the US Navy (Tactical Communications, Navigation, Weapons and Data Systems)
Years Fishing: 11 as an adult, first bass boat in 2004
Sponsors: Secret Weapon Lures
Tournament Tours: ABA Draw Tournament (Assistant Director for District 11, MD and DE), Bassmaster Weekend Series
Boat: Triton 21X, Mercury / Motor Guide / Lowrance
Achievements: Qualified for the ABA Nationals my first two years in competitive bass fishing (2005, 2006). Two top 5 and 7 top 10 ABA finishes in past 36 months.
Affiliations: American Bass Anglers, B.A.S.S., NAFC
Home Lakes: Potomac River, Lake Gaston, Chickahominy River, James River, Lake Kerr
Favorite Fishing Spot: Potomac River, Potomac River and oh yeah Potomac River
Favorite Fishing Technique: Buzzrbaits and frogs any time I can, spinnerbaits or soft plastic on edges. I will throw a Buzzrbait even under extreme circumstances just because I have such confidence in the bait. Potomac River (like many place) has matted weeds in summer, and Ive learned to let the fish tell me what they want. Pitch/flip heavy plastic, Senko/worms on the edges, or spinnerbaits over the top or along the edges. I love the depth control with the Sidearm; you can roll or burn it along in just 3 or 4 inches of water over the top of flooded matt, even on long casts.
Pros Pointers: Think about vibration and vertical placement in the water column. By changing between blades and spinnerbaits you can match the bait to the day. The Quickstrike gives me vertical movement in the water column, the Sidearm gives me great depth control. And never give up on a Buzzrbait I have caught fish on them times and places the book says it wont work.
Pete and his teammate at the 5th Annual Wounded Soldiers tournament.
