Attitude is EVERYTHING! — In the sport of bass fishing, whether for recreation or in tournaments, presents anglers with countless variables over which we have no control- wind, water clarity, fishing pressure, or poor weather conditions. That being said, one thing that has helped me TREMENDOUSLY is developing an attitude that is 110% positive. What I mean by that is whenever I encounter a situation that nearly everyone would see as being negative, I try to list at least two good things that will result from it. For instance, if the wind is blowing 20 mph on your favorite fishing spot; yeah, that’s bad for boat control, but at the same time it will keep other fisherman and pleasure boaters out of the area, it stirs up the water column (oxygenating the water, pushing plankton around which keeps the baitfish active which makes the bass more active, AND it helps to position the fish).

See, just by using my knowledge of how both bass and bass fisherman work, I’ve turned a bad situation into a great chance to go out and drill some nice fish. Imagine this as well; you pull up on a new fishing spot that your trying for the first time. The second cast in you get hammered and a 5-pounder comes up, shakes his head and throws your lure. Your first thought is probably not a very positive one. Your first thought should be, YAHTZEE! Because now you know that (A.) there are fish (and good fish) in the area, (B) they could be quite aggressive, (C) you could already have the right lure tied on, and (D) because of this, you will probably be paying very close attention to your fishing and end up getting “in the zone.” Developing an attitude such as this makes all the difference in the world when it comes to fishing. After all, how many times have you caught a 10-pounder when you were ticked-off and frustrated for some reason?

About Stephen: I have been hunting and fishing since the age of 9, but it wasn't until this past year that I decided I wanted to take the next step in my fishing career and pursue tournaments and sponsorships. I now, essentially, live to fish and all my free time circles around fishing and working for my sponsors.

Steven Pineau, Lake Lewisville WinI have been hunting and fishing since the age of 9, but it wasn't until a few years ago that I decided I wanted to take the next step in my fishing career and pursue tournaments and sponsorships. I now live to fish and all of my time circles around fishing and working for my sponsors. I am fortunate enough to be attending college in an awesome fishing state such as Texas and can say that being in an area with so many diverse lakes has really helped take my fishing abilities to the next level. As far as tournaments are concerned, I fish the B.A.S.S. Bassmaster Weekend Series and the MediaBass Trail as well as the C.B.A.A., A.C.A. and Under Armour College Bass tours. However, my main focus, and the tournament in which I have devoted myself to winning is the BoatUS Collegiate Bass National Championship. Although I do my best to map out my fishing career only a few years up the road, I have a great drive to really make something huge out of my love for fishing.

I realize that, for my age, I really have a good jump on my fishing career and it would be selfish for me to not give credit to all of those who encouraged (or just put up with) my love for bass fishing. I want to thank God; nothing of what I have accomplished would be possible without him. My Mom and Dad; they are often my biggest advocates and, occasionally, my bank account. All my aunts and uncles, especially Tom and Jim, as you guys are almost solely responsible for my initial obsession of the outdoors. My best friend, Ben Dziwulski, I have learned 90% of what I know about bass fishing from you. My good friend, Jonathan Vandam, you have definitely helped further my career on several levels. The FlatMaster 3000, Frank Ippoliti. My mentor, Theron Caldwell. Elite Series Pros Mark Tucker, Fred Roumbanis, Kelly Jordan, Jeff Kriet, Gary Klein, Brian Clark, Glenn Delong, and especially Pete Ponds. And all of my sponsors who have supported me in my fishing career; Ranger Boats, Fun-N-Sun Marine, Quantum Fishing, American Rodsmiths, Hi-Seas Fishing Line, Kaenon Polarized, Black Dog Bait Co., Boss Baits and of course, Secret Weapon Lures.

Thank you and God Bless.
